According to Florence, police, Jones went off the road along southbound Interstate 75/71 near U.S. Route 42, hitting James Lutz and Cynthia Gooch with her minivan.

Florence police Capt. Tom Grau said Lutz and Gooch may have been working on their pickup truck when Jones hit them Sunday morning.

Lutz was pronounced dead at the scene. Gooch and Jones suffered serious injuries, and they were taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Jones now is being held at the Boone County Detention Center.

The southbound lanes of I-75/71 were closed between U.S. Route 42 and Mount Zion Road for more than two hours Sunday morning while police investigated and cleared the wreckage.
