HAMILTON, Ohio – Police say it was no laughing matter when a mother brought heroin to the Butler County jail to give to her son.
William E. Hoadley, 24, had been locked up on drug charges and was preparing to be released. When he called his mother, Robin C. Kelley, 54, to pick him up, he asked her to bring drugs so he could shoot up as soon as he got out.
Capt. Mike Craft said Hoadley must have forgotten that jailers listen to inmate calls.
"Our Drug Unit had him under surveillance," Craft said. "His mother met him at the intake-outtake door. They walked to the van together and before they pulled out our marked unit swooped in and stopped them, and they had the heroin."
Hoadley was out of jail for all of one minute and 32 seconds, Craft said. But the thought that his mother was the one to provide him with heroin was truly shocking.
"It's a sure sign we've got problems," Craft said. "Some people still want to challenge in their mind how severe this epidemic on heroin is right now. If this isn't a sign to people that this is out of control and it needs some immediate attention, they need to wake up."
Mom and son are both in jail charged with felony drug possession.
