PARIS, Ky. -- A man is dead after he shot a police officer and fired at police during a standoff in Paris, Kentucky, according to state police.

Paris police and KSP entered the home of Charles Stidham, 34, on Tuesday night as part of an investigation, according to a press release from KSP. Stidham began shooting at officers and struck one in the abdomen. The wound was non-life threatening and hit the unnamed Paris police officer's bullet-resistant vest.

"Mr. Stidham continued to fire his weapon through the windows at the officers," the KSP press release said. "After an exchange of gun fire, Mr. Stidham was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Bourbon County Coroner’s Office."

The incident is under investigation by KSP.
