Chipotle robber crashes during getaway, injures two, Florence police say

Suspect gives up when car fails on I-75

FLORENCE, Ky – Police say they caught a man who robbed a Chipotle and injured two people when he crashed into their car trying to get away.

Nicholas D. Sanders, 20, of Florence, is being held on multiple charges in the Boone County Detention Center.

Sanders was brandishing a knife Wednesday morning when he robbed the Chipotle at 7915 Dream St., police said.

As Sanders drove off, arriving officers saw him turn left onto Ewing Boulevard and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but Sanders failed heed them.

Sanders then struck another vehicle from behind, causing that vehicle to jump a curb and hit a tree.

Sanders turned west onto KY18/Burlington Pike and continued onto SB I-75, police said. But damage from the accident caused him to pull over. He was taken into custody without incident.

The driver struck by Sanders and a juvenile passenger were taken to hospitals. Their injuries were not life threatening.

Sanders was charged with robbery, fleeing and evading, assault, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident.
