WILDER, Ky. - A woman, killed Wednesday in a four-vehicle crash, was talking on her cell phone when the accident took place or shortly before the crash, investigators determined.
Thirty-nine-year-old Marjorie Byrd of Independence, Ky. died after the vehicle she was driving collided with stopped traffic shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday on the AA Highway near I-275. Three other vehicles were involved. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Wilder Police Department, information from witnesses and a check of cell phone history indicate use of a cell phone was a possible contributing factor in the fatal crash.
The crash happened in the northbound lanes, just north of the Castellini Group business. Police shut down the highway between I-275 and Poole's Creek Road for more than an hour.
At least one medical helicopter was called to the scene.
Two other people were injured, but their conditions have not been released.
