COVINGTON, Ky. - Officials are working to determine the cause of a Covington house fire that displaced a man early Thursday morning.
The fire started at a single-family house in the 1900 block of Greenup Street at about 2 a.m. The man woke up when his fire alarm went off and he escaped uninjured.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, went to the downstairs of his home and saw smoke and fire, so he fled through the back door of the house. The flames trapped him in his backyard, so fire crews had to help get him out.
When the fire department arrived, they contained the blaze to the first floor of the house. The fire caused the man to be displaced for the night.
Investigators are working to determine what caused the flames. They have not yet released information about the estimated cost of damage to the house.
