BATAVIA, Ohio - Police have identified the man who died after an accident at a construction site in Batavia Wednesday night.
Police say 54-year-old Carol Root was injured while unloading supplies at 500 Kent Road.
A witness told police Root was unloading a skid that weighed at least 2,300 pounds with a Bobcat out of the back of a trailer. The witness said when the skid cleared the trailer, Root jumped out of the trailer.
He was then standing between the skid and the trailer as he was waiting for papers to be signed when the Bobcat and skid tipped forward. Root was pinned between the skid and trailer for about a minute, according to the witness.
Root was taken to Clermont Mercy Hospital for treatment and later died.
Root worked for Towne Construction Services. A representative from the company was not available for comment Wednesday.
Both OSHA and the Batavia Police Department are conducting an investigation.
