Police continue to investigate
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Authorities have identified two New Jersey residents killed when a small plane crashed near the end of a runway at a central Ohio airport.
The plane was leaving Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus for a trip to New Jersey when it crashed and caught fire shortly before 9 a.m. Sunday, killing both people on board.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the pilot was 54-year-old Viswanathan Rajaraman and the passenger was 50-year-old Mary Sundaram. Both were from Franklin Lakes.
The plane was registered to the company Buds Aviation in Franklin Lakes. The company had no publicly listed phone number.
The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating what caused the crash. An FAA spokesman says the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation because the crash was fatal.
