CINCINNATI -- A police cruiser overturned onto its top while pursuing a suspect's vehicle southbound on I-71 near downtown early Tuesday, sending a Cincinnati Police officer to the hospital.
The accident happened around 12:15 a.m. near the Reading Road exit, just outside the Channel 9 studios.
The officer was conscious after the accident. He climbed out of the cruiser and was walking and talking. As a precaution, medics put him on a stretcher and took him to the hospital for evaluation.
The officer's name has not been released.
Police shut down all southbound lanes of I-71 at the Taft Road exit.
Police say the officer was trying to stop a 1997 Plymouth station wagon registered to a woman with a home address on McHenry Avenue.
The chase started somewhere in Walnut Hills, according to police, then continued onto I-71. As the officer crashed, the suspect's vehicle kept going.
The car was later found in Greendale, Indiana burned out, but there was no sign of the suspect.
