Lots of us would like to make a little extra money working on our home computer.
The Scams
But if you've tried it, or have seen media reports on the subject, you probably realize by now that MOST WORK AT HOME OFFERS ARE SCAMS...especially if it involves envelope stuffing, any sort of mailing, or refund processing.
No company will pay you to stuff envelopes. Beware of "home mailing" offers for the same reason. They don't need you.
You CAN make money taking surveys, but don't expect more than a few bucks here and there. You will spend a lot of time taking surveys to earn $5.
And beware websites that say you can earn tons of money online if you pay a modest fee, such as $49. Bottom line: if they promise you lots of money a month for a $19 - $99 startup fee, its may be scam. They get your money, and it's too little for you to hire a a lawyer and sue them over.
There are some legit work at home jobs.
Make Money being an Expert
On WCPO-TV on Dec 3, 2007, I talked about websites where you can be paid to give out expert advice on a subject you're familiar with. "Student of Fortune.com" is one site, where you help students with homework. "BumperBrain.com" is another. (Click above links). You provide expertise on some subject, and make a few dollars. Don't expect to get rich, but it could be fun.
Mystery Shopping
Yes, you can also earn money by becoming a Mystery Shopper, but be careful of sites charging $49 or such to sign up. In most cases, you'll pay $49 and get stuck with worthless, out of date leads. Check the Mystery Shopping Providers Association for legitimate jobs. (Click above)
Great Work at Home Resources
Here are two good websites that list lots of other ideas. "WAHM.com," short for "Work at Home Mom" as well
as "mom-mom. com" both provide links to several legitimate websites. Guys are welcome too. But beware: some of their "Google Ads" may be for less-than-legitimate sites. Stick with the message boards and site content...be careful of the paid ads. (Click above)
Best of luck, and Don't Waste Your Money. I'm John Matarese.
