Try It Out Tuesday: Fat Magnet

CINCINNATI - All week on Good Morning Tri-State, we're getting you ready for Thanksgiving dinner by testing kitchen gadgets that promise to make your turkey day easier.

We were really interested to see if the Fat Magnet lived up to its claims.

It claims to easily attract fat from soups, chilis, gravies and more, making your recipes healthier.

First, you freeze the Fat Magnet for at least 2 1/2 hours, and the frozen metal attracts the fat in your pot.

We tried it on taco meat -- not exactly a Thanksgiving staple, but you get the point.

The fat from the ground beef hardened on the Fat Magnet, and the scraper, which is included, got rid of it.

It definitely beats skimming the pot by hand, but if your food is really hot, the Fat Magnet will only stay cold for so long before you have to wash it and refreeze it to use it again.

But our tester says it's worth a try.

As always, this is an unscientific test with unscientific results.
