P&G recalls pet food

CINCINNATI - Natura Pet Products cites "an abundance of caution" for its second expansion of a voluntary recall of pet food products, announced March 18. The expanded recall now includes all dry pet food with expiration dates up to and including March 24, 2014.

The expanded recall is the fourth quality control problem announced by Procter & Gamble Co.'s pet food division in the last two months. It's a division that has struggled to recover from an industry-wide recall in 2007. Natura Pet Products was acquired by P&G in 2010. Its March 18 recall was the first in its 21-year history.

"We are taking all actions necessary to ensure that our products meet both your expectations and ours," said a letter on the company's web site. "Our Fremont plant has been focused on quality enhancements and is now shipping new product to stores that will be on shelves soon."

Additional details on the recall expansion can be downloaded from the Natura web site, at .
