Peacocks, Pineapples and Pearls: Lilly Pulitzer store arrives at Kenwood Towne Centre

CINCINNATI - "I didn't set out to be unusual or different. I just wanted to do things my way."

Heiress-turned-fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer's way of doing things culminated in the elaborate pinks and purples; peacocks and pineapples; and, prints and prices that fans of the brand have been flocking to since 1959.

Pulitzer died in early April at the age of 81, but her hues--and her fashion empire--live on, evident in the new Lilly Pulitzer retail store at the Kenwood Towne Centre.

The store opened on May 1. However, lucky fans of the brand got a sneak peek at the newest location during a Family and Friends event the night before--a coming out party complete with sparkling cupcakes and cookies, snack platters, punch and champagne.

Lilly loves Cincinnati

The newest Lilly Pulitzer store comes as part of a larger expansion, according to Angela Amendola, who works in public relations for the company. This is the second Lilly location in Ohio, after the store at Legacy Village in Cleveland. Based on the turnout for the local debut, Amendola and Julie Sgrignioli, visual merchandising associate, are anticipating positive reception for this new store.

Who do they think will visit the store?

Women who embrace the resort chic look, love color and fun and most importantly, don't take themselves too seriously--much like Lilly Pulitzer herself.

Though "Lillys," as Pulitzer's dresses were called, came in two designs – one with sleeves and one without – current fashionistas enjoy an incredible range of style and versatility from tops and tanks to dresses and skirts of all shapes and styles. The introduction of accessories – bags, scarves, iPhone covers, bracelets, stationary and shoes – has further captivated fans.

Popular with sorority women, Lilly Pulitzer released a line of sorority print items, featuring sorority colors, symbols and mascots. The company utilizes social media voting and engagement to select the new sorority prints they'll design and release. In January 2012, FIVE sororities--Alpha Xi Delta, Alpha Omicron Pi, Phi Mu, Sigma Kappa and Pi Beta Phi--joined the class of sorority prints already produced by Lilly Pulitzer.
