CINCINNATI - Greater Cincinnati has ten companies in the Fortune 500 list published today. The list is based on annual revenue, which ranged from the $469.2 billion generated by Walmart to the $4.8 billion recorded by Nash-Finch.
This year’s list features the return of American Financial Group, which dropped out of the top 500 last year but returned at number 485.
Kroger is the highest ranking company on the 2013 Fortune 500 list, with $96.8 billion in revenue and a number 23 ranking. Procter & Gamble ranks 28th on this year’s list. They are followed by Macy’s (109), Ashland Inc. (321), Fifth Third Bancorp (361), Omnicare (416), General Cable Corp. (425), AK Steel (430), Western & Southern Financial Group (471) and American Financial Group (485).
The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber proudly notes that Cincinnati has more Fortune 500 companies per capita than Los Angeles, New York or Chicago.
"Together, these companies employ over 50,000 residents in the region," said Ellen Van der Horst, chamber president and CEO. "Another positive bellwether is the number of firms here within growth sectors of financial, consumer staples and healthcare. It’s a good affirmation of our cluster-based economic development strategy within these sectors."
