RECALL: Target, Trader Joe's hummus

If you like to get your hummus from Target, Giant Eagle or Trader Joe’s, you may want to clean out your fridge.

Nearly seven tons of hummus from Lansal, Inc., which does business as Hot Mama’s Foods, have been voluntarily recalled  after a routine test by the Texas Department of Health.

Testers found the potential for a Listeria contamination of Target Archer Farms Traditional Hummus.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause death in young children and the elderly, as well as those with weak immune systems. That, according to an FDA news release.

Healthy people with a Listeria infection can experience high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women can suffer miscarriages and stillbirths.

The following recalled products were shipped to Ohio:


  • Archer Farms Traditional Hummus
  • Archer Farms Mediterranean Veggie Hummus Wraps
  • Archer Farms Hummus Veggie Snacker
  • Archer Farms Roasted Garlic with Roasted Garlic Tapenade
  • Archer Farms Roasted Red Pepper with Roasted Red Pepper topping

Giant Eagle

  • Chipotle Hummus
  • Garlic Hummus

Trader Joe’s

  • Five-Layered Dip (Small)
  • Five-Layered Dip (Large)

Tryst Yellow Lentil Hummus with Sunflower Seeds & Apricots

No illness has been reported.

If you have purchased one of the above products, do not eat it. You can either dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
