Report lists which cars in America are stolen the most frequently

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) recently reported that the vehicles most commonly stolen in American within in the past year aren't necessarily the priciest makes and models.

In fact, thieves have their eyes on popular Sport Utility Vehicles and crossovers rather than fancy Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

The luxury vehicles, NICB says, are too difficult to steal and too easy for police to find.

The Ford Escape is at the top of the list of SUVs or crossovers that thieves quickly and easily snatch. Following the small Ford SUV is the Ford Edge, Ford Explorer, the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Kia Sorrento.

Rounding out the top 10 are the Nissan Rogue, the Honda CR-V, the Toyota RAV4,the Chevrolet Equinox and the Chevrolet Traverse.

In addition to staying away from pricey cars, thieves tend to be more interested in smaller Sport Utility models as opposed to larger vehicles like Cadillac Escalades and Chevrolet Suburbans.

Overall, the most popular car for crooks is the Honda Accord. As of June 2014, more than 30,000 Accords have been manufactured.
