Tablets are on many gift-giving lists this year, but our partners at Consumer Reports Magazine have identified one tablet that comes up short.
The Monster M7 is sold exclusively at Walmart for $150.
But in Consumer Reports' labs, testers found a problem. The tablet locked up regularly during use.
Three different tablets fail
To show what happened, testers set up a camera over the tablet. An app ran a slide-show of news headlines.
The slide show stopped suddenly and the screen went blank.
"We tested three Monster 7 tablets and the screen froze or went blank on each of them. Sometimes it happened in less than an hour, other times it took several hours for the screen to freeze," said Dean Gallea of Consumer Reports.
Testers were able to restart the tablets to clear the problem, but on each tablet tested it happened again.
Consumer Reports has named the Monster M7 a Don't Buy.
If you already own the tablet, the magazine says consider returning it to Walmart, but be aware that they have a 15-day return policy for tablets so you may have to demand your money back.
No comment at this point from Walmart or Monster, which is better known for its high end speaker and HDMI cables.
As always, don't waste your money.
