Weddings & Celebrations: Can you find true love at PetSmart and Walgreens? Two couples say 'yes'

LOVE CITY, USA - This week, the common theme in our column is that you can find love just about anywhere, including PetSmart and Walgreens.

From PetSmart to "Pink Ladies"

Just Married: Tommie and Amanda Lipps
When:  November 30, 2013
Where: St. Rose Church, Cincinnati
Reception: Hyatt Regency, Cincinnati
Maid/Matron of Honor: Michelle Pope, sister of the bride
Best Man: Ronnie Lipps, brother of the groom

Amanda Hester, daughter of Mark and Carol Hester of Cincinnati was married on Saturday, November 30 to Tommie Lipps, son of Ron and Kathie Lipps of Cincinnati.

Mrs. Lipps, 25, is a campaign manager for dunnhumbyUSA. Mr. Lipps, 27, is a financial analyst at Schneider Electric. The couple met in the fall of 2005 while working together at PetSmart.

  • Why it works: The couple says that a shared love of laughter and animals is what makes their relationship so special. They say after so many years of knowing one another, they can say without doubt that they are truly best friends.

The ceremony was officiated by Father Barry Windholtz. Father Windholz has a special place in the bride’s heart as he was the same priest who baptized her and has remained a close friend of the family throughout her life.

While the couple felt blessed to be surrounded by family and friends, the bride said her bouquet was the most memorable of items from the ceremony. Wrapped in her mother’s own wedding veil from 1971, the bouquet also included a locket from the groom’s maternal grandmother and a turquoise ring from her paternal grandmother.

The reception at the Hyatt Regency downtown was an evening filled with tributes and memories. In honor of their grandparents, the couple created a family tree display for guests that included their grandparents’ wedding pictures, their parents’ wedding pictures, as well as one of their own engagement photos, to show the bonding of the two families into one.

In honor of her grandmother, who died just one month before the ceremony, the bride had her grandmother’s favorite drink, “The Pink Lady," served to guests during the cocktail hour. The couple was surprised with a special slide show documenting their relationship.

The two recently bought a home together in the White Oak area of Cincinnati and plan to remain there now that they are married.

Love "at the corner of happy and healthy"

Newly engaged: John Lampe and Kelsey Brown
Wedding date: February 7, 2014
Location of Wedding/Reception: Batavia, Oh

Kelsey Brown, daughter of Christopher and Leann Brown of Guilford, Ind., is engaged to John Lampe, son of Dotty Lampe of Cincinnati. Ms. Brown, 22, is a shift leader at Walgreens. Mr. Lampe, 31, is a manager at Walgreens.

The couple met in 2010 when they began working together. It was not long after meeting that the two began to have feelings for each other, and it was a special walk at the nature center one hot summer day that left them both knowing it was love. Three years later, the groom sealed the deal with a simple but sweet proposal at their apartment.

The bride-to-be says that while she and Mr. Lampe do share the same values, she is the high strung one in the relationship while he is much more relaxed and easy going.

  • Why it works: Ms. Lampe says that like every couple, she and her fiance have their disagreements, but at the end of the day they always come together. And, their favorite Huey Lewis & the News song goes, they are quite happy to be "stuck" with each other.

The pair will continue to live in the Cincinnati area once they are married.
