Girl Scout cookies to go on sale in region Friday

CINCINNATI - It's that time of year when Girls Scouts sell their famous cookies, and Tri-State residents stockpile them — often to the detriment of their newly-set weight loss goals for the new year.

The Girl Scouts in southwest Ohio begin taking cookie orders Friday and this year, the selection is growing. In addition to the traditional six Girl Scout cookies available, a new snack bar is being added to the mix. The snack bars come in two varieties: Double Dutch and Tagalongs.

Also, hungry cookie buyers will see new boxes on Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos and Savannah Smiles.

The cookies cost $3.50 per box and the snack bars are $4 per box. The Girl Scouts' cookie-selling endeavors run through March.

The annual cookie sale aims to help girls develop life-long skills that increase their self-confidence and add new dimensions to their lives, such as goal setting and business ethics, according to the Girl Scouts' website. Also, girls help earn their own way and contribute to the troop and council support.
