CINCINNATI -- Cincinnati's most historic neighborhood is about to get a taste of the city's most historic ice cream.
Graeter’s, a 143-year-old company and iconic Cincinnati ice cream shop, broke ground on its 17th Cincinnati area location this week on Vine and 14th in Over-The-Rhine.
The new shop is expected to open in December of this year and will incorporate an espresso bar to help attract late night guests.
“I love OTR,” said Graeter's CEO Richard Graeter. “I have been impressed by 3CDC’s leadership to revitalize the area and am excited to open a store in such a vibrant urban community.”
3CDC -- also known as the Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. -- has in the works dozens of new residential units, shops, additional townhomes, commercial space and more in OTR.
The new Graeter's location will be the first to incorporate new store branding elements created by Cincinnati-based BDR Design Group. Some of the updates include the menu board, seating, tables and lights.
“At just over 1,000 square feet, this is our smallest store footprint,” said Chip Graeter, who is in charge of all of Graeter’s retail stores. “Due to the store’s small size, we will not have bakery goods at this location. Instead, the store in historic OTR will hearken back to the early 1900’s when my great-grandparents ran an ice cream parlor not far from this location."
The OTR Graeter’s will feature a traditional ice cream fountain and an assortment of fine candies.
