Chicken buns with a sriracha kick: wine me, dine me pick of the week visits Orchids at Palm Court

CINCINNATI - We are pleased to bring you this weekly feature from Julie Niesen Gosdin, the voice behind the food blog wine me, dine me.

Chicken buns: Orchids at Palm Court, Hilton Netherland Plaza

There is something about the Orchids at Palm Court bar --the Art Deco architecture, the jazz trio, the friendly bartenders--that makes me feel very grown up.

It's one of my favorite places in town to grab a cocktail (currently, my favorite is the Soigne) and a bite to eat. It's actually where I (along with friends) celebrated Opening Day this year, and it's always fun to go on a Saturday night, where you'll invariably see multiple wedding parties celebrating after receptions.

The food comes from Todd Kelly's exemplary kitchen. That means the same chefs that create multi-course tasting menus also create really interesting, sophisticated and reasonably priced bar food.

Usually, my husband and I will grab a burger and the Brussels sprouts (which are always amazing), but this time I decided to try the chicken buns. Think of these as a cross between a Southern-style chicken sandwich, complete with pickles and the very trendy, of-the-moment steamed buns with sriracha. It combines supremely crispy fried chicken, spicy sriracha, tart pickles and soft, almost-sweet buns for a delicious two-bite sandwich (You receive two in an order).

Not only do you get delicious bites, the classy joint has some of the nicest bartenders in town. They make some drinks, which include local ingredients and ingredients specifically created for Orchids, like select Four Roses bourbon and honey from the roof of the Carew Tower.

Bottomline: A delicious, creative bite in beautiful surroundings, with craft cocktails and friendly service? What's not to like?
