Cincinnati Zoo receives funds to make field trips free for qualifying schools
12:47 PM, Oct 8, 2012
CINCINNATI - School children throughout the Tri-State will soon be able to enjoy field trips to the zoo for free.
The Living Classroom Education Access Fund is making it possible for the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden to offer free field trips for qualifying schools. Title 1 schools or schools with 50 percent or more students receiving free or reduced lunches are eligible.
The aid will not only go toward helping schools go on daytime field trips to the zoo, but also can be used toward the Nocturnal Adventures Overnight program at the zoo as well.
To apply teachers must submit documentation of financial need, a description of how the trip will enhance learning in the classroom and a lesson plan.
If support is granted, students and one chaperone for every 10 students will receive free admission. Additional chaperones will be $5 per person. School bus parking is free while individual vehicles are $8 for the day.
