CINCINNATI - Watch out young men of Cincinnati, a cougar may be on the prowl for you!
According to research from CougarLife.com , Cincinnati has been crowned the cougar capital of Ohio.
For those of you who don't know the term "cougar," Elissa Buchter, spokesperson for CougarLife.com, offers up a definition: "A cougar is an older woman who likes to date younger men. Cougars are fabulous, confident, independent, professionally successful women who know what they what and are in the prime of their lives, sexually too. They feel that men their own age can't keep up with them which is why they prefer younger men who still have the same thirst for life and new discoveries as they do."
Cincinnati has the greatest number of older women in search of younger men than any other city in the Buckeye State, according to the research. The outcome of the research was determined by two factors:
- Cincinnati has more than two times as many cougars than any other city in Ohio.
- Cincinnati cougars on average date three times as many cubs as the next most active city in Ohio, which is Columbus.
"Through our membership data, we found that of all the cities in Ohio that has a population of 500 or more, Cincinnati ranked as No. 1 with the highest of women on CougarLife.com on a per capita basis. Not only that, they are also the most active women when it comes to site usage with the average woman spending approximately 52 minutes her day on the site which is 37 percent higher than any other city in Ohio," Buchter said in an email.
Claudia Opdenkelder, a former Miss Cougar Canada, who is a self-proclaimed cougar that recently married a man 14 years her junior, launched CougarLife.com in 2009.
With the increasing popularity of older women pairing with younger men, the need for the site presented itself, said Buchter in an email. She gave Hollywood cougar examples such as Demi Moore, Madonna and Jennifer Lopez.
This site currently has more than 3 million members and is available in six countries.
