MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - A 5-year-old girl remains in a coma after her legal guardian allegedly assaulted her.

Angel White, 57, was charged with child endangering after she brought Jaylia Parker, 5, whom she has legal custody over, to Children's Hospital unconscious after an alleged assault, according to the Middletown Journal.

The incident occurred on April 10 and White originally told police that a 13-year-old she also has custody over had beaten Parker while she was at the dentist.

The 13-year-old was taken to Butler County Juvenile Detention Center after admitting the abuse, and police determined that he assaulted his sister with his fists until she was unconscious, according to the Middletown Journal.

Police originally told the Journal that White was aware of the beatings and failed to take the child to the hospital. When the 13-year-old recanted his confession to assaulting Parker, police continued their investigation and ultimately instead charged White with abusing the girl.

Parker remains in a medically-induced coma two weeks after the incident.

White no longer has custody of Parker, the 13-year-old boy, or three other children she was taking care of.
