MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- Officers arrested and charged a teen with two counts of vehicular homicide Friday after they say he caused a deadly crash near the Towne Mall in Middletown.
Police said Alex Powers, 19, was driving north at 2 p.m. on Towne Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at a traffic signal at Pendleton Circle and caused the accident.
Powers, of Camden, Ohio, slammed his 1997 Honda Accord into a 2002 Grand Am, killing the man who was driving. The man's passenger, a woman, was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight where she later died of her injuries.
Both victims were from Camden. Their names have not been released.
Powers was charged with two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, which are both felonies. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
Police said Powers also caused another crash an hour earlier at the intersection of Breiel Boulevard and Lefferson Road.
Officers said Powers only caused property damage, but he fled the scene.
For this incident, he was charged with fleeing the scene of an accident and failure to control.
A juvenile female passenger in Powers' vehicle received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the Atrium Medical Center.
