Sexually transmitted diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases, or STDs (S-T-D's), are more easily transmitted to women than to men. STDs in women often lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. Complications from STD's are also more common in women than men and include scarring, miscarriage, adhesions, blocked tubes, or ectopic pregnancy. Infertility can result from STD's. To reduce the risk of such diseases, remember that being in a mutually monogamous relationship with an uninfected partner gives you the greatest chance of avoiding an STD. Use latex condoms for contraception and be tested for diseases. Early detection and treatment can benefit both partners. If you're partner has a sexually transmitted disease, both of you need to be treated.
