“Dancing with the Stars” is spicing up with competition for Latin week (yes, I went with the obvious cliché) – and one star is already at risk due to a broken bone.
First up, singer Ricky Martin will guest judge, joining judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli. And, yes, he will perform. And, yes, you already know what he will perform.
Also, this marks the first week that each of the remaining seven couples must perform two dances, and one of them will be a group dance.
But the biggest interest factor is reserved for actress Danica McKellar and her partner Val. Danica broke a rib while practicing with Val on Friday.
The big question is, will Danica perform Monday night?
We all know there’s no way in the world DWTS would ever announce that decision before airtime. I mean, where would the suspense be, if we knew how about the welfare of an actual human being in a timely manner?
Val managed to eek out one suggestive tweet, but has not followed-up with anything that definitely states he and Danica will perform.
If they do perform, Danica will dance a salsa for her partner dance. Ice dancer Meryl Davis and Maks are also slated to perform a salsa.
Reality star NeNe Leaks and Tony are working on the Argentine tango, as are actress Candace Cameron and Mark.
Ice dancer Charlie White and Sharna are rehearsing a paso doble, while Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy and Derek are practicing a rumba.
Singer James Maslow and Peta are working on a samba.
Then there’s the group dance. Because Ricky is guest judge, the Latin teams are split up into Team Vida and Team Loca. What else?
Charlie, James, NeNe and their partners comprise Team Vida.
So I’m expecting the real drama will come from Team Loca. Not only does that have (in theory) the injured Danica, but it has her “rival” Candace. So this will be the first time the so-called rivals have to dance together. Their team also features Amy and Meryl.
Frankly, I’d put my money on Team Loca. Not only does it have golden boy Derek, who teams win all these group dances, but those star gals can all really work it.
As for who’s going home, unless the injured Danica bows out, I think it could be between NeNe and Candace. Both have been hovering near the bottom of the scores, but NeNe will be out if Candace’s fan base rallies around her.
Last week, comedian Drew Carey was sent packing.
The competition continues live Monday night at 8:00 on ABC.
