CINCINNATI -- Like every major American ballet company, Cincinnati Ballet roots itself in the classics—"Swan Lake," for instance, is again on the pallet, for the final weekend of October.
But the company, helmed by Victoria Morgan, is also committed to introducing new work by today's most exploratory choreographers.
Cincinnati Ballet opens its 50th season on Thurs., Sept. 12, with a program of new works by Cincinnati dancemaker Heather Britt, Val Caniparoli, Jodie Gates and Gina Patterson, along with an airing of James Kudelka's choreography for The Man in Black.
WCPO arts reporter Matt Peiken takes viewers inside the company's rehearsal studios and talks with Morgan and her principal dancers about the freedom, challenge and commitment of stepping outside the bounds of traditional ballet.
The New Works program runs 10 performances through Sept. 22 at the Cincinnati Ballet Center.
