CINCINNATI -- Amazon Prime members in Hamilton County may be able to order beer online and have it delivered within two hours to their front door in the near future.

Prime Now LLC, an affiliate company of Amazon.com, submitted permit applications to the Ohio Department of Commerce in September that would allow online sales and delivery of beer, wine and other prepackaged alcoholic beverages in the region seven days a week.

Amazon opened a "Prime Hub" distribution facility in April that allowed the delivery of certain items within two hours of ordering online for Prime members. That center, at 5845 High Ridge Drive, is listed on the pending permit through the department's Division of Liquor Control website.

It can take anywhere from 10 to 15 weeks for liquor permits to be approved, according to the Commerce Department.

A message was left with Amazon seeking comment on the possibility of local delivery service.

Amazon began alcohol sales and delivery in cities such as San Diego in February.
