In a move that will send shockwaves through the Cincinnati brewing community, Richard Dubé is leaving the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company.

CINCINNATI -- In a move that will send shockwaves through the Cincinnati brewing community, Richard Dubé is leaving the Christian Moerlein Brewing Company.
Dubé was the Vice President of Brewing Operations at Christian Moerlein and the man who reinvigorated the brand’s core lineup of beers and spearheaded recipe development at the Christian Moerlein Lager House at The Banks.
Company officials confirmed Dubé resigned Thursday. There is no word on his immediate replacement.
Dubé released the following statement to WCPO about his resignation, “Those that are close to me are aware that I was getting further away from what truly brought me back to the industry. I am evaluating where I can continue to have a positive impact and make a significant difference either be in brewing and/or teaching.”
Christian Moerlein owner and chief executive officer Greg Hardman issued a statement Friday:
“We appreciate the contribution Richard Dubé made in assembling our team of talented brewers as we have a strong team of innovators that will continue to drive our commitment to craft brewing. As we have enjoyed tremendous growth at our Over-the-Rhine brewery in a short period of time, Christian Moerlein will continue to strengthen its position in the craft beer category. We do wish Richard the best of luck as he pursues other endeavors and thank our team for their continued creativity and commitment to our beers and our brand.”
Dubé is well-known among the Cincinnati beer scene and came to work for Christian Moerlein after a long history in the beer world.

In addition to teaching at the prestigious Siebel Institute of Technology -- one of the top brewing schools in the country – he also worked for Labatt and the Boston Beer Company.
Dubé first began working with CMBC in 2012 opening and brewing at the Moerlein Lager House. His first order of business was to tweak the recipes at the time and implement stricter quality controls.
Once the CMBC production facility in Over-the-Rhine was opened, the beers being bottled there were made from Dubé’s recipes.
After reinvigorating the brand and helping launch the Moerlein production brewery, he was promoted to the Vice President of Brewing Operations for all of Christian Moerlein.
Dubé is leaving behind a handpicked team at CMBC that should continue to use his recipes for the time being.
The news comes as the company is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary Friday night .
The brewery made a special limited edition barrel aged beer called 10/161 to mark the occasion. The special beer also honors the original founding of the company by Christian Moerlein 161 years ago.
The event will also give patrons a sneak peek at the Over-the-Rhine brewery’s new German-style deli at the Moore Street taproom and production facility.
