CINCINNATI -- It’s time to put your craft beer taste buds to the test as Firehouse Grill heats up with round two of the Battle of the Beers.
Sixteen local breweries will square off at noon Sunday at the Blue Ash eatery for the “Firehouse Cup.”
The breweries are bringing 32 beers this time and organizers said they are changing the way the competition will be held this year.
“Craft beer is a rising movement in Cincinnati. The Battle of the Beers at the Firehouse Grill is the perfect chance to try the local best, mingle with the brewers, and have a stake in who gets crowned with the Firehouse Cup,” organizer Chris Ashwell said in a release.
This year the breweries will compete over a series of three events with the sales determining who moves on each round (June 8, July 6 and Aug. 24.)
The final four breweries will duke it out in the championship in August.
In the first round, each brewery will bring two beers and the public votes by simply making a beer purchase.
For the next round, the elite eight will bring three beers for contention. The final found features four brewers bringing four beers each to see who is crowned victorious.
Each round will be hosted at the Firehouse Grill and brewers from all 16 breweries will be on hand, in addition to live music on the patio.

Old Abe American Ale
Old Abe is a creamy full-bodied beer with dark amber color and medium lace. It has a lactic beery malt aroma and the finish is slightly "hoppy" but very crisp. ABV 10%
Brother Clement Belgian Wheat
A refreshing summer beer brewed with whole clementines. It has a light citrus aroma and a clean refreshing finish. ABV 6.5%
English character malts combine with earthy American hops in this hybrid Northern English/American Brown Ale. The addition of the shiitake gives it an extra hit of earthiness and a touch of that savory quality.
Out and About
Our version of this old East German style uses "Sauermalz" and a little Caraway to go along with Coriander and just a touch of Sea Salt. The result is a crisp, refreshing wheat ale for when you are "out and about" on a warm day.
English Ale A local favorite! Soft sensual mouth feel gives way to flavors of espresso and peanut intermingling in the finish. OG=1.071, IBU=37.8, FG=1.013, SRM=11.0,ABV 5.5%
Irish Dry Stout Delicious notes of chocolate and roasted coffee come through on this dry stout. Hints of chicory and caramel round out the full lingering finish. OG=1.068, IBU=24.4, FG=1.014, SRM=28.0, ABV 6.8%
Zeppelin Bavarian Pale Ale
Zeppelin is a twist on an American-style Pale Ale - a pale ale that uses all Bavarian-sourced ingredients. The Hersbrucker hops give this beer a unique potpourri/grapefruit-like aromatic quality that is backed-up with a medium to light mouthfeel, sessionable alcohol content (5%), sparkling carbonation, and assertive bitterness (40 IBUs) to make this beer perfect for refreshing the palate in between bites, or simply quenching thirst on a hot summer day.
Se7en Hefeweizen is the driest beer in the Moerlein portfolio and is brewed with 2/3 malted wheat and 1/3 malted barley. At a sessionable 4.7& ABV, this Bavarian-style hefeweizen offers phenols and esters that offer subtle notes of banana and clove in the nose and on the palate. Light and crisp, this beer is ideal as a crushable thirst-quencher, or as a summer sipper.

Jackie O’s (Athens, OH)
10% ABV // 110 IBU - Brewed with Galaxy hops, show casing a strong juicy fruit character. The Mandala series is designed to highlight single hop varietals. These double IPAs are solely hopped with one hop allowing both the brewer and the consumer to fully taste and smell all the pure hop character.
6.5% ABV - This brown ale was brewed to commemorate the 2007 Lungevity Everest Expedition. The people of Tibet call Mt. Everest
“Chomolungma”; this exceptional ale carries on the spirit of the climb. 7 Malts, 3 hops, and 100 pounds of local wild flower honey give this ale an exceptional character. Baked muffins, dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, rich honey and earthy subtle hops caress the palate.
Beets me is a hefeweizen brewed with beets! We mashed in with over 10 pounds of beets per barrel, giving this Hefe its vibrant pink color. Banana and clove are the dominant flavors in this summer classic. 5.4%
Nutcase Peanut Butter Porter
You read that correctly. We put peanut butter in a beer. Dark, slightly roasty and nutty, Nutcase uses PB2 to give the beer a great peanut smell and flavor. 6.7%
Lemon Basil Blonde
Blondes get a bad wrap, but often there is much more than meets the eye. And if you look beneath the surface of this blonde ale, notes of lemon with the spice and bouquet of basil makes it anything but ordinary.4.4% 11 IBU.
Rounding third is a red IPA that starts with a big hop aroma thanks to a healthy dose of Falconer’s Flight dry hop. A nice balance of caramel malts and piney hops come through in the taste. And all followed up by a bitterness that lingers keeping you wanting more.
Coffee Brown Ale
A collaboration of local roasters and brewers, this session coffee ale boasts the bold aroma of Cincinnati's Deeper Roots Coffee. Citra Saison is the Belgian Lawnmower Beer of Mt. Carmel opening with an aroma and a color ripped straight from a lemonade stand. A nose of grapefruit, lime zest and bubblegum pour into a rounded body balancing fresh citrus and pink peppercorn. Brewed to revive with fresh Citra hop, an explosion of orange and grapefruit draws down on a zesty, dry finish of lemon, pepper and spice. 4.6% ABV

A crowd favorite take on our best selling beer. Chickow! is a double brown ale infused with hazelnuts. Chocolatey, malty and sweet, we add Coconuts to this version to give it a little extra taste of summer. This is a rare beer, only surfacing on occasion. 10%
An imperial white IPA. Coming in at a massive 10.5%, Decimation is big, sweet and citrusy. The 'white' IPA comes from the wheat malts used in the grain bill, but don't confuse this for a wheat beer. Amarillo dry hops help this beer finish with a mouthful of citrus. 10.5%

Self Starter Session IPA
The name of this session IPA was inspired by both the electric self-starter invented by Daytonian, Charles Kettering in 1911 and by definition: a person who is able to work or play without needing a lot of help or instruction. At 5.2% ABV this beer features the perfect balance between malt, hops and a clean finish - a combination of which creates a beer with high drinkability. This session IPA is pale orange in color with copper highlights and citrus/fruity aromas and flavors from the Amarillo hops that were added during the boil and dry hopped at the end of fermentation. The malt character is slightly bready or nutty to start with a bitter dry finish. IBU: 67. ABV: 5.2%
Ermal's Belgian Style Cream Ale
The first of its kind, this Belgian Style Cream Ale was inspired by Daytonian Ermal Fraze, creator of the pop-top can. This beer is light with creamy body. Mild spice accents and a symphony of citrus notes. IBU: 20. ABV: 5.4%
