Alisa Weilerstein: Star cellist making the rounds as a resident artist with the Cincinnati Symphony

Artist makes deeper investment in the community

CINCINNATI -- The vibrant young cellist Alisa Weilerstein is one of two musicians working this season as resident artists with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra .

Along with public performances, Weilerstein has led workshops and master classes for students at the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music, conducted demonstrations for grade-schoolers and performed at the Northside Tavern and other locales where the world's elite classical musicians are not generally found.

Weilerstein first performed with the Cincinnati Symphony in 2004, at just 22 years old, and has made a handful of visits since. When the orchestra invited her to become a resident artist for the 2013-14 season, Weilerstein said, "I was thrilled."

In this video, we talk with Weilerstein about life as a resident artist, drop into a critique session with Weilerstein and cello students at CCM and watch Weilerstein perform alone and with CCM students through an evening of Classical Revolution  at Northside Tavern.

This glimpse at Weilerstein's life is the first edition of "(p)arts," a new WCPO video series opening windows onto Cincinnati artists and their work.
