John Steinbeck’s literary classic of enduring friendship in the face of unendurable hardship in Depression-era America is the next offering at the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company.

The story of down-and-out migrant laborers features two of Cincy Shakes’ most versatile performers.

Jeremy Dubin is pragmatic George, who struggles to protect oversized, simple-minded, trouble-prone Lenny, played by Jim Hopkins. Dubin says it’s exciting to perform “with someone who you already know so well and have so much history and experience with.” That should make for a powerful, poignant evening of theater.

Through Nov. 10. $22-$35. Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, 719 Race St., Downtown, 513-381-2273, cincyshakes.com.
