Singer-songwriter Melanie DeMore joins MUSE, Cincinnati's Women's Choir, for "Keep Yo' Lamps Burnin," a program of spirituals and original works in the African-American tradition. An award-winning artist and educator, DeMore is acclaimed for her rich contralto that verges on baritone and her electrifying stage presence.
She'll sing with MUSE, narrate Ysaye Marie Barnwell's song cycle "Crossings" and perform her own compositions with audience participation. MUSE makes its first public appearance since winning a gold medal at the 2012 World Choir Games under the direction of Dr. Catherine Roma, who retires at the end of the 2012-2013 season. $5-$15. 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at Kennedy Heights Presbyterian Church, 6312 Kennedy Ave., Kennedy Heights; 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 and 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at St. John's Unitarian Church, 320 Resor Ave., Clifton. musechoir.org.
