Actress ASHLEY JUDD has paid tribute to medics and hospital staff for taking care of her race car driver husband DARIO FRANCHITTI after he was injured in a crash at the Houston Grand Prix in Texas on Sunday (06Oct13).

The three-time Indy500 champion was rushed to Houston Hospital following the incident in which his car soared into the air and slammed into a fence close to fans after colliding with fellow competitor Takuma Sato.

The sportsman suffered concussion, a fractured spine, and a fractured right ankle, and will remain in hospital for the foreseeable future as he recovers from his injuries.

His wife Judd, who has stayed by his side since the accident, has credited staff at the hospital for their efforts.

The Double Jeopardy actress took to Twitter.com to share her appreciation, writing, "Very grateful for fine doctoring and helpful nursing across so many departments, & meals brought in from outside the hospital. Thank you!"

The comment follows a statement released by Franchitti on Tuesday (08Oct13) in which he thanked fans for their support, saying, "Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes. They mean a lot to me... I would also like to send my best to all the fans involved in the accident and hope that everyone is alright."
