LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. -- The Tri-State is certainly not considered the snow capital of the world, typically getting about 25 inches of snow per season.
At Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg, Ind. they have spent the last 32 years making a livelihood out of winter weather but they don't just sit around and wait for Mother Nature to drop some snow.
Owner/Operator Chip Perfect says that their goal is help Mother Nature along by making the maximum snow that they can at the highest quality with some 250 snow-making machines. The process isn't an easy one requiring years of time tested experience and lots of science.
Freezing temperatures are obviously needed to make snow but other factors can dictate how much snow is produced. Dry air has more evaporative cooling and will result in a larger volume of snow than humid air.
It's not just about flipping a few switches either. The right human touch is essential with no less than 10 people monitoring the process as the guns are up and running.
There are some benefits to the man-made snow. It’s a little bit heavier and has a higher water content and that makes it much more durable and longer lasting through the milder temperatures of a Cincinnati winter.
Chip Perfect knows not to mess with Mother Nature though. He says there is nothing quite as perfect as some all-natural fresh powder.
