As snow continues to fall on Saturday in the Tri-State the following communities have issued snow emergencies:

Kentucky:

Independence rescinded a Level 1 snow emergency it established at 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

Kenton County preempted the snowy conditions forecast for Saturday by issuing a Level 1 Snow Emergency Friday night to take effect at 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

A Level 1 Snow Emergency in Kenton County is their least restrictive level and serves primarily as an advisory.

Gallatin County, Ky. also issued a Level 1 snow emergency.

Indiana:

Franklin County has issued a Level 2 snow emergency Saturday morning.

More snow emergencies could be issued as the storm passes through the region Saturday.

The emergencies were issued in front of a Winter Weather Advisory that effects the entire Tri-State , beginning at 4 a.m., due to the forecast winter weather conditions and accumulations of 2-4" of snow by Saturday's end.

There are three levels of snow emergencies. While there may be slight variations from one community to the next, these are the general definitions:

LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Drive carefully. Motorists must move cars from snow emergency routes.

LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.

LEVEL 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one else should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.
