CINCINNATI - Even though it’s still winter, the National Weather Service wants to prepare YOU for severe weather season. If you LOVE the weather, and enjoy tracking storms, put that passion to good use by becoming an official severe weather spotter for the National Weather Service.
Every year before severe weather season hits in the spring, the National Weather Service in Wilmington holds spotter training courses in communities across the Tri-State.
In these classes, you’ll learn how to spot and report severe weather, as it’s happening, in order to keep our community safe.
"When people in the community become trained severe weather spotters they provide some great, basic information about what's going on with the storm on the ground." says Mary Jo Parker, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist of the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
The spotter storm reports provide vital information to the NWS and helps them when they’re issuing warnings. YOUR reports can help save lives by preparing us all when severe weather strikes, therefore, keeping us ALL safe.
If you’re interested in becoming a severe weather spotter for the National Weather Service, go to their website for a list of classes in the Tri-State area: http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/iln/training.php
