CINCINNATI - Hot, dry conditions continue for the 4th of July, and that means we have an increased fire danger. Not a good combination when it comes to fireworks.
Not only have we seen little rainfall, but grasses and plants are extremely dry and brittle, making perfect fuels for the starting and growth of wildfires.
We all know fireworks are illegal, but let’s face it, people are going to shoot them off for Independence Day anyway. So how can you safely use fireworks without starting a wildfire?
Joe Rozzi, of Rozzi Famous Fireworks, said that you always need a hose nearby and running. You also need to spray and water down the area where you plan to set off the fireworks.
Rozzi also said that you need to keep a bucket filled with water for your sparklers too.
Of course the best thing is to NOT use fireworks at all, and head out to one of the public shows.
Rozzi Famous Fireworks, the company that does many of the fireworks displays around town, including the big Sawyer Point display downtown, plan to take extra precautions with our high fire danger.
They plan to have extra fire fighting units on hand, as well as watering down the launch area. If they encounter any problems that would cause a fire danger, they would cancel the event, but Rozzi said that this is only in an extreme situation.
