CINCINNATI - The brief break from the heat is over and 90s are in the forecast this Memorial Day weekend.
That means your A/C will be working overtime ... or will it? Many of you maybe getting a big surprise when you turn on your air conditioners.
Tom Dean says he doesn't mind working up a sweat outside while he shovels mulch in the blazing heat. What he does mind is going inside, turning on the air conditioning and finding out it doesn't work.
"I came home Saturday evening and it was about 78 degrees in here and I saw that it was going to get warmer. So I turned it down to 73 or 72 and went to bed and when I got up in the morning, it hadn't changed a bit," said Dean.
Tom needed some cool help. Adam Reverman with Thompson Plumbing, Heating & Cooling came to his rescue.
"The warmer it gets the more people are turning their air conditions on and that's when they usually find out things aren't working right,” said Reverman
Adam says most often dirty air ducts and low refrigerant are the main problems. High heat is another. In our 7 day forecast, a stretch of 90s is sure to keep A/C units humming this holiday weekend.
"Annual maintenance is the best thing they can do to prevent a lot of those things from actually happening. Just by keeping up with the system and have a heating or cooling specialist to come out and check it out to make sure it's running the way it's supposed to," said Reverman.
Or deal with 80 degrees inside, the best way you can.
"I turned on all the fans I could find and opened all the windows cause it does get a little cooler at night to get a little bit of air in here and try to make it half way comfortable to sleep in," said Dean.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting a hot summer.
So now is the time to get your A/Cs checked out so you won't have to sweat it out in the heat.
