CINCINNATI - It's been the year that the rain would never stop. The flooding rains arrived during spring and we've been setting records ever since.
During April 2011, we set a new monthly rainfall record of 13.52", shattering the old record of 9.77" from 1998. We had so much rain that we came within less than two tenths of an inch from tying the for the most rainfall ever in any month. The most rainfall in any month in Cincinnati occurred in January 1937 with 13.68".
The summer was quiet, but the rains started back in the fall. We set another record this time for the Wettest Meteorological Autumn. We received 19.86" over the three month period from September until November. This was 10.5" above normal.
With less than 72 hours left to go before we ring in 2012, there's more rain in the forecast to add to our record yearly total.
Total precipitation for the year to date is at 73.12". This is more than 30" above our normal precipitation of 42.20". Last year, at this same time we had only seen 36".
