CINCINNATI - While the Tri-State has seen a mild winter so far, other parts of the world are seeing more winter than they can handle. Amazing pictures have been pouring out of Europe where several winter storms have paralyzed the area with piles of snow and dangerous, freezing temperatures.
Aida Cerkez of The Associated Press reports that in Ukraine, the hardest hit area, temperatures have fallen as low as minus 33 Fahrenheit (minus 36 Celsius). The government said Sunday the country's death toll now stands at 131, including many homeless people. About 2,300 other Ukrainians have sought treatment for frostbite or hypothermia.
In Italy, some areas have been brought to a stand still, where the copious amounts of snow closed schools and disrupted transportation, by cancelling train schedules and closing roads.
This winter cold snap has been plaguing Europe since the end of January, and unfortunately, the sub-freezing temperatures have caused hundreds of deaths in an area that isn’t used to these extremes.
In looking at the forecast, it appears that the region will continue to see these freezing temperatures through the weekend. It doesn’t look like temperatures will begin to warm up until next week. Not the best news for Europe, where its people have had enough of winter.
