Safety kits are a necessity when it comes to making sure you and your family are prepared for severe weather.
The worst case scenario is another round of severe weather with tornadoes on the ground. What are you and your family going to do if you get stuck in your safe room?
Cincinnati Fire Chief, Richard Braun spoke with 9 News Meteorologist Larry Handley about some of the items that you should include.
Chief Braun recommends preparing early by gathering things such as your medications when you head downstairs.
Water is another item that you should have ready.
"Make sure you have a good supply of water and get that down. At least a case, if not more," said Chief Braun.
Having more than one flashlight is also a good idea, as well as a good supply of batteries to operate them.
"We don't want candles, and you don't know what the electric is going to be like, you probably won't have any," said Chief Braun.
Another thing you want to do when a storm is coming is charge your cell phone and other devices such as laptops or tablet computers.
"If nothing else, if you don't have access to Wi-Fi or something, there's still entertainment," said Chief Braun.
A first aid kit is absolutely necessary to include in your kit.
"You're going to need it because it could be a while before we're able to get to you," explained Chief Braun. It is also a good idea to get familiar with your first aid kit so you know what's in it and know how to use those items.
Braun suggests it may be a good idea to take a basic first aid class through the Red Cross to make you a little more comfortable in a crisis situation.
