COLD SPRING, Ky. - Officers responded to an accident with injuries on the AA Highway early Thursday morning.
At approximately 7 a.m., police were called to an accident involving one tractor-trailer and three vehicles that occurred on the AA Highway just north of Glenridge.
Traffic was blocked at Pooles Creek for southbound traffic and northbound traffic was reduced to one lane. The roadway was completely open at noon.
Investigators indicated the tractor-trailer, driven by Albert Woodard of W. Terre Haute, Ind., was traveling northbound on the AA highway in the high-speed lane and caught up to a red Chevrolet Malibu in front of him that was driven by Kathleen B. Markus of Alexandria, Ky.
Woodward began to change lanes to the slow speed lane and struck a green Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Paul Reis of California, Ky.
This caused Reis to lose control of the vehicle and cross in front of the tractor-trailer. Reis then struck the red Chevrolet Malibu and crossed the median into the path of a black BMW, driven by Tafari Love of Cincinnati, Oh.
Reis was ejected from his vehicle at the scene and his car continued across the roadway ending up in a ditch on the southbound side of the roadway.
The driver of the BMW and his passenger, Kim Noble, along with Reis, were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with serious injuries.
Kathleen Markus was checked at the scene and Albert Woodward was not injured.
Campbell County Major Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene to reconstruct the accident.
Completion of the accident investigation will determine if charges will be pursued in the cause of the accident.
