CINCINNATI - Every interview session involving Cincinnati or Xavier during the NCAA tournament invariably has included questions about their December brawl.
By reaching the tournament's round of 16 together, the Bearcats and Musketeers may have finally gotten beyond it.
The crosstown rivals traded punches in the closing seconds of their Dec. 10 game, won by Xavier on its home court by 23 points.
Four players from each team were suspended, and the game became a national talking point and turning point for both teams. Cincinnati had to reinvent itself because of the suspensions. Xavier lost its confidence and took some losses. Both made strong finishes and have been playing their best at tournament time.
The Bearcats play Ohio State in Boston on Thursday. The Musketeers play Baylor in Atlanta on Friday.
