Tri-State high school football N.Ky. rankings: Week 6

The Highlands Bluebirds held on to the top spot by taking care of business at home last Friday night as they defeated the second-ranked CovCath Colonels 35-21 at David Cecil Memorial Stadium. Despite the loss CovCath stays in our top spot in this week’s TSF NKY Rankings.

Cooper and Simon Kenton both remained undefeated by picking up wins as they opened up their district schedule. The only change in this week’s poll comes at the bottom where NewCath and Holmes flipped flopped from No. 9 to No. 10.

Here are the latest TriStateFootball.com Northern Kentucky Rankings:

1. Highlands (5-0)
How they fared: The Bluebirds passed their toughest challenge of season by knocking off CovCath.
Looking Ahead: Next up Highlands heads to Harrison County to take on 0-5 Thorobreds.

2. CovCath (4-2)
How they fared: CovCath came up short in their quest to take down Highlands in Ft. Thomas.
Looking Ahead: A return trip home for a Saturday matchup with Pendleton County should do them well.

3. Cooper (6-0)
How they fared: Scott proved to be no challenge for the red-hot Jaguars as district action opened up.
Looking Ahead: The district title is likely on the line as Cooper heads to Conner on Friday night.

4. Simon Kenton (6-0)
How they fared: The Pioneers continued to shine as they shutout Ryle to open up district play.
Looking Ahead: Simon Kenton will look to keep things rolling as they make a trip to Campbell County.

5. Conner (3-2)
How they fared: Defense continued to haunt the Cougars as they fell to South Oldham, 63-57.
Looking Ahead: The Cougars must knock off Cooper to have any chance to win a district crown.

6. Campbell County (2-3)
How they fared: The Camels’ bye should help them get focused on defending their district crown.
Looking Ahead: Campbell County opens up their district schedule by hosting Simon Kenton.

7. Ryle (2-3)
How they fared: Ryle came up blank against Simon Kenton as district action kicked off.
Looking Ahead: A trip to Boone County is in store for the Raiders to close out September.

8. Lloyd (5-1)
How they fared: The Juggernauts knocked off defending Class 2A champs, Holy Cross.
Looking Ahead: Lloyd welcomes Bishop Brossart to Erlanger as district play continues.

9. NewCath (2-3)
How they fared: NewCath dominated Brossart to open up their district schedule.
Looking Ahead: The ‘Breds will get a good test when they travel to face Holmes.

10. Holmes (3-2)
How they fared: The Bulldogs snapped a two-game skid by taking down Pendleton County.
Looking Ahead: Holmes is set for a home tilt with NewCath to finish out the month.
