The Withrow Tigers came into week two off a heartbreaking loss to Turpin losing by just three points 17-14. The Tiger’s rebounded this week and pulled out the win over the Anderson Redskins, 43-38 as their offense just exploded in the fourth quarter taking the first lead of the night.
Early in the game, Withrow (1-1) quarterback Malik Bland fumbled the ball after being hit hard by three hungry defensive Redskins. Anderson was able to recover and get the ball to the 20 yard line but failed to convert this turnover into any points after Withrow blocked their field goal attempt.
Tiger’s junior quarterback Malik Bland passed for an impressive 219 yards, connecting with teammate Aaron Murray once and Tyrone Maye twice for touchdowns and scoring three scores himself. He also walked away with 72 total rushing yards.
Anderson (0-2) quarterback Kevin Roger’s offense was nearly non-existent in the fourth quarter until with 3:33 remaining he connected on a nine-yard pass with Travis Broman to give them six, but it proved to be too little too late for Anderson.
The Redskins hope to end their losing streak next week when they take on Lakota West, while Withrow travels to Dayton to take on the 0-2 Centerville Elks.
