CINCINNATI - The Walton-Verona Bearcats wasted no time in disposing of the Newport Wildcats as they advanced to Round 2 of the Class 2A playoffs in Kentucky with a 42-7 home win on Friday night.

Sophomore Will Latimore only carried the ball two times, but he made the most of his opportunities scoring on runs on 40 and 55 yards to lead Walton-Verona (9-2). Mason Compton, Chris Latimore and Corey Bennett each added rushing TD’s of their own as the Bearcats registered 287 yards of total offense, including 222 on the ground.

Compton along with both Chris and Will Latimore each contributed with an interception on defense to help the Bearcats advance.

JaQuan Short’s 15-yard TD catch in the third quarter was the only trip to the end zone on the evening for Newport (3-8). The Wildcats end their season with three straight losses while being outscored 121-26 in that span.

Walton-Verona is set to host Lloyd in Round 2 of playoff action next Friday. They lost to the Juggernauts last year at home in a season-ending playoff loss and fell again this season on the road.
