Missed opportunities, the “would’ve, could’ve, should’ve” opportunities will be what New Albany (11-3) looks back on and contemplates after their heart-breaking loss to Trotwood-Madison (12-2) at majestic Alexander Stadium in Piqua, Ohio on Friday night. The Eagles missed their first two extra points then a 2-point conversion only to find themselves down 20-18 at intermission.
Isreal Green, who ran for 220 yards and two first quarter touchdowns to help Trotwood-Madison build a 20-6 advantage, found out that he was not the only in the scene. New Albany’s Leslie Anoyke proved to be his equal, finding the end zone twice in the second stanza on runs of 12 and 13 yards. Anoyke would end up with 155 yards rushing and three touchdowns as he led the Eagles to 20 unanswered points and a 26-20 advantage with just over eight minutes left in the contest.
For his career, Green now has 1,646 yards and 22 touchdowns running the ball during the post-season. His season numbers now sit at 1,732 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground.

Trotwood-Madison would score twice within four minutes sandwiched in between was Anoyke final score from 49-yards out. The Rams escaped narrowly with the win but were outplayed in every aspect of the affair. New Albany won the yardage battle and was plus one in turnover margin yet the kicking game failed them. With less than 30 second left in the contest freshman kicker, Joey Rolwing would push a 27-yard field goal attempt wide right as the Eagles upset bid would fall short.
Trotwood-Madison now plays next Friday against Toledo Catholic Central for their second straight Division II state title. The Rams will be playing in the championship game for the third straight year.
