DAYTON, Ohio - Roger Bacon defeated Madeira 75-50 at UD Arena Thursday evening to advance in the Ohio Division III high school boys’ basketball tournament.
The Spartans opened the game on a 9-0 run thanks in part to an early 3-pointer by junior Carlas Jackson, who finished with a team-high 19 points.
Roger Bacon (23-3), which had allowed only 79 total points in its three previous playoff games, limited the Mustangs to just nine points in the second quarter to take a 35-19 lead at halftime.
The Spartans knocked off Blanchester (92-17), Ripley (85-23) and Mariemont (75-39) in earlier rounds of the playoffs.
Cincinnati Hills League leading scorer Andrew Benintendi did his best to keep the Mustangs in the game early. The senior, who averaged better than 25 points per game this season , scored all 10 first-quarter points for Madeira (19-6), which was held to a season-low point total in Dayton.
Roger Bacon will play Summit Country Day Wednesday, March 13 at Kettering Trent Arena for a berth in the regional finals (March 16).
